Reporting to the Yard Manager, the successful candidate will be required to: Inspect vehicle engine and mechanical/electrical components to diagnose issues accurately. Inspect vehicle computer and electronic systems to repair, maintain and upgrade. Conduct routine maintenance work (replacing fluids, lubricating parts etc.) aiming to vehicle functionality and longevity. Schedule future maintenance sessions and advise motorists on good vehicle use. Repair or replace broken or dysfunctional parts and fix issues (e.g. leaks) Strip vehicles for spares Provide accurate estimates (cost, time, effort) for a repair or maintenance job. Keep logs on work and issues. Maintain equipment and tools in good condition. Any ad-hoc duties Educational pre-requisites: Relevant qualification (Minimum of N5) Forklift license will be advantageous, but not essential. Proven experience as a mechanic position Excellent knowledge of mechanical, electrical and electronic components of vehicles Working knowledge of vehicle diagnostic systems and methods Ability to handle various tools and heavy equipment. Willingness to observe all safety precautions for protections against accidents, dangerous fluids, chemicals etc. The willingness to keep up to date with technological advances in the field. YARD CONTROLLER A high performance, dynamic, driven, and growing company operating in the motor industry has a vacancy for a Yard Controller to join their team in Jet Park, Boksburg. Reporting to the Yard Manager, the successful candidate will be required to: Operations & Inventory Management • Supervise and coordinate the receipt, dismantling, and processing of scrapped vehicles. • Ensure proper sorting of vehicle components, including reusable parts, scrap metal, plastics, and hazardous materials. • Monitor and maintain an accurate inventory of salvaged auto parts and scrap materials. • Oversee the weighing, loading, and transportation of scrap to buyers and recycling facilities. • Ensure proper tagging and storage of salvageable parts for resale. Compliance & Safety • Enforce health, safety, and environmental regulations to prevent accidents and ensure compliance with South African laws (e.g., Second-Hand Goods Act, Environmental Management Act). • Oversee the proper disposal of hazardous materials such as oil, batteries, and fluids in accordance with environmental guidelines. • Ensure all staff wear the required PPE and follow safety protocols. Staff Supervision & Customer Relations • Supervise and coordinate a team of yard workers, dismantlers, and drivers. • Train employees on efficient dismantling techniques, scrap handling, and safety procedures. • Assist customers and suppliers with inquiries regarding parts, pricing, and transactions. • Prevent and resolve disputes related to material quality, pricing, or missing parts. Administrative Duties • Maintain accurate records of all incoming and outgoing vehicles, salvaged parts, and scrap materials. • Manage weighbridge operations and ensure accurate weight records for sales and inventory. • Assist in reconciling daily cash transactions, stock reports, and invoices. • Report any discrepancies, theft, or loss of materials to management. Requirements • Matric / Grade 12 (essential). • Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in scrapyard, automotive dismantling, or related environment. • Strong knowledge of scrap materials, vehicle parts, and stock management. • Excellent leadership and people management skills. • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment. • Computer literacy (MS Office, stock control systems). • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills. • Valid driver’s licence (required).
